Cosmetic Surgery Trends For 2020

The popularity of cosmetic surgery certainly hasn’t waned over the last decade. More than 18 million people had cosmetic surgery in 2018, and although official figures aren't yet available, even more surgeries and procedures are expected to have been performed last year. Cosmetic surgeries can now transform virtually any aspect of your appearance, from facial features to your overall body shape. Despite there being a huge range of different procedures available, there are some that remain more popular than others. There are also some innovative new treatments that are expected to be particularly desirable this year. Here’s our guide to the cosmetic surgery trends of 2020.

BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast augmentation surgery remains one of the most commonly-requested types of cosmetic procedures. The surgery itself involves using one of several things to increase the size and volume of the breasts. Many patients are familiar with silicone or saline implants. Silicone implants are now considered safe for breast augmentation surgery and are pre-filled before being placed into the chest cavity. Meanwhile, saline implants are inserted empty and then filled to the desired volume. This tends to make saline implants better for those patients who begin with asymmetrical breasts.

2020 will also see an increase in the number of patients who opt for breast augmentation via fat transfer. This is when fat is taken from another part of your body via liposuction and is then prepared and re-inserted into the breasts. Because it is your own body tissue, the fat transfer is less likely to be rejected. Many patients feel that the breasts created using fat transfer are also more natural in appearance and feel.

LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is a procedure that facilitates the removal of excess fat from a specific area of the body in order to create a slimmer, smoother skin tone. Liposuction has been very popular since its inception and this doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon. The process, which can be done using a local anesthetic, is minimally-invasive although patients will still need to give their body time to heal and recover. Liposuction can be performed on many areas of the body, including the buttocks, thighs, hips, lower back, abdomen, and upper arms. Contrary to what many people may think, liposuction is popular with both men and women, and an increasing number of males are turning to the procedure to help them achieve a sleeker and more toned appearance.

NOSE RESHAPING

The nose is easily one of the body features that are most difficult to hide, making rhinoplasty just as popular today as it always has been. Conventional rhinoplasty is a surgical process that involves reshaping the nose and necessitates a significant recovery period. However, today it is also possible to undergo non-surgical nose reshaping. This is carried out using dermal fillers which are placed into the skin around the nose in order to change its shape and appearance. Unlike conventional rhinoplasty, non-surgical rhinoplasty provides virtually instant results and the patient has no downtime, enabling them to get back to usual and start enjoying their new nose immediately.

FACIAL AESTHETICS

Facial aesthetics have become particularly popular during the last few years and this trend is set to continue well into the next decade too. The main purpose of the procedures that belong in the facial aesthetics category is to help address the signs of aging, helping patients to look and feel younger.

Although there are lots of facial aesthetic treatments, Botox-based procedures are amongst the most popular. The Botulinum toxin type A injections are used by brands including Botox, Xeomin, Jeuveau, and Dysport. These injections work by freezing the muscles underneath the skin so that the overlying skin can no longer contract and form lines/wrinkles. The effects are temporary so regular treatments are needed to sustain the results.

Another popular type of facial aesthetics is those which focus on improving the appearance of the lips. Full, plump pouts are some of the most desirable traits of the last few years, and it is possible to boost lip volume thanks to a number of different treatments, such as Restylane and Juvéderm.

HAIR TRANSPLANTS

Hair transplants aren’t a new concept, but modern hair transplant techniques are now more comfortable and more effective and successful than ever before. The process involves taking the patient’s own hair from one area, such as the back of the head, and transplanting it to an area where their growth has stopped – for example, the hairline. The procedure takes anywhere from 4-8 hours depending on the precise technique used and the degree of hair that needs to be moved. It can take several months for the effects of the treatment to become obvious, but the majority of patients are very pleased with their results.

NON-SURGICAL BODY CONTOURING TREATMENTS

If you want to experience effects similar to that of liposuction, but you are prepared to wait to achieve them, you could consider non-surgical body contouring treatments instead. There are a variety of different techniques that help to eliminate excess fat cells from the body and create a smoother, more toned appearance. These include cryo-freezing/fat freezing which freezes the fat cells so that they die and are metabolized by the body, and red light therapy, which heats and liquefies the fat cells so that they are also metabolized and processed out. The results of non-surgical body contouring treatments typically take up to 3 months to show, but the treatments have the benefit of no surgery, no downtime or scarring.
