The Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is relatively new to the world of cosmetic procedures, so many misconceptions still exist about it. Here, we bust the myths and provide the facts about this transformative cosmetic surgery.

The goal of the popular cosmetic procedure known as the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is to give you a fuller, perkier backside. Most people who seek a BBL want to correct a flat or square-looking butt, so they can feel more confident when wearing form-fitting clothing such as jeans, workout leggings, or dresses.

In the world of cosmetic surgeries, the BBL is a relatively new addition, so plenty of false information still surrounds the procedure. For example, the name “Brazilian butt lift” is misleading. The surgery didn’t originate in Brazil nor is it actually a butt lift. Instead, it’s a fat transfer that takes fat from unwanted body areas, and transfers it to your backside.

At Houston Cosmetic Surgery Center in Houston, Texas, board-certified cosmetic surgeon David Davila, DO, FACOS, and our team offer the Brazilian butt lift procedure to boost your confidence and help you feel good in your own skin.

Because so many misconceptions about this cosmetic treatment still exist, we want to bust the myths and provide the facts so you can have peace of mind if you’re considering having a BBL yourself.

Myth: Brazilian butt lifts don’t look natural

Fact: Just like any other augmentation procedure, it’s normal to worry that your results may look unnatural. However, because a BBL uses fat from your own body, it’s actually going to look much more natural than any other type of procedure that seeks to enhance the appearance of your backside.

Myth: Brazilian butt lifts are the same as butt implants

Fact: BBLs and butt implants are both procedures that change the appearance and contour of your backside. However, the similarities end there — each uses completely different techniques to reach that end goal.

When you get butt implants, silicone implants are placed in or below your gluteal muscles; with a BBL, your own fat is transferred to your buttocks from somewhere on your body.

It’s important to note, however, that butt implants may be a better option for you if you don’t have enough fat for a successful BBL transfer.

Myth: Brazilian butt lifts aren’t safe

Fact: There are always risks involved with choosing to undergo elective cosmetic surgery, and a BBL is no exception. But as more research is being done about the safety of the BBL procedure, more protocols have been put into place to help ensure any risks are properly mitigated.

You can rest assured that as long as you choose a board-certified surgeon like Dr. Davila, you’re in expert hands and your safety is our highest priority.
