Define Your Look: How Chin Implants Create a Stronger Profile
Do you wish that your chin was more defined or better suited to the rest of your facial features? Learn how chin implant surgery can provide a stronger profile and bring balance to your face.

Do you want to redefine your look and strengthen your profile? Chin implants might be the answer. Chin implant surgery, or chin augmentation, is rising in popularity, and it makes a great addition to other facial reconstruction surgeries, such as rhinoplasty, or a “nose job.”

Combining various cosmetic surgeries can maximize your results by adding even more symmetry and balance to your features.

At Houston Cosmetic Surgery Center in Houston, Texas, board-certified facial cosmetic surgeon David Davila, DO, FACOS, and our expert team offer cosmetic surgeries that can transform your appearance and boost your self-confidence, including chin implant surgery. Here’s what you should know.

What is chin implant surgery?

Chin implant surgery is a cosmetic procedure that seeks to define a small or receding chin that isn’t very pronounced. During this surgery, your lower jawline is given definition by placing chin implants that add both depth and width.

The chin implants are made of silicone, which is a flexible and artificial substance, and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The one our team uses for your surgery depends on what your goals are.

You may want to consider chin implant surgery if you aren’t happy with the way your chin looks in proportion to the rest of your features, or if you’ve suffered a traumatic facial injury and are seeking cosmetic reconstruction.

How to prepare for chin implant surgery

Before you can undergo chin implant surgery, you’ll sit down with Dr. Davila to discuss your goals and make sure you’re a good candidate for the procedure.

To be considered for chin implant surgery, you must be in relatively good physical health, have a fully developed jawbone, and have realistic expectations for what this procedure can — and can’t — do for you.

Our team also discusses how chin implant surgery can help you achieve your aesthetic goals and suggests any other cosmetic procedures that might complement the chin implants, such as rhinoplasty.

Once you’re cleared for surgery and the implant surgical plan has been mapped out, you can schedule your surgery date.

What to expect from chin implant surgery

On the day of your surgery, our team begins by administering general anesthesia to keep you comfortable for the whole procedure. Some patients may be candidates for local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Davila makes a small incision around your chin or mouth to create space to place the implants.

After Dr. Davila expertly places the implant, he carefully secures it in place with either a screw or suture. The skin is closed with absorbable sutures in a meticulous manner to reduce noticeable scarring.

You can return home the same day of your procedure, though you will need someone to drive you due to the effects of the anesthesia. Make sure to rest and avoid strenuous activity for about two weeks while you recover.

Once the swelling and bruising from the surgery subside, you should notice the beautiful results of your chin implants.
