Achieve Sleeker Thighs This Spring: A Guide to Thigh Lifts
Are you looking for a way to tone your legs in time for spring? A thigh lift could help you get there. Discover how a thigh lift can shape your thighs and help you achieve your body goals for the warmer months.

Do you have sagging skin around your thighs due to recent weight loss or aging? A thigh lift can remove excess fat and skin and achieve a slimmer and more shapely look to your legs. It can also resolve skin pain and irritation that may occur when your thighs continually rub together.

No matter your reason for considering a thigh lift, this is an invasive surgery, and undergoing this major cosmetic procedure should be carefully thought through.

And that’s exactly why, in this month’s blog, board-certified cosmetic surgeon David Davila, DO, FACOS, and  our team at Houston Cosmetic Surgery Center in Houston, Texas, are providing a detailed guide about what exactly a thigh lift is, how it works, and what to expect if you choose to get this procedure.

What is a thigh lift?

A thigh lift, medically known as a thighplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess skin and fat around the thigh area. It can also be combined with other procedures, such as a butt lift or liposuction, for a complete lower body transformation.

There are different types of thigh lifts depending on the area you want to target. They include:

  • Mini thigh lift, which uses one incision around the groin to target upper thigh
  • Inner thigh lift, which uses incisions around groin and butt to tighten upper inner thigh
  • Outer thigh lift, which uses incisions around groin and hip to tighten upper outer thigh
  • Spiral thigh lift, which uses incisions from groin to butt to tighten multiple areas

Thigh lifts are fairly common, with about 9,000 procedures done in the United States each year.

Are you a good candidate for a thigh lift?

If you have sagging skin around your thighs from aging or weight loss or you simply desire to have a sleeker, more shapely appearance to your thighs for warmer weather, a thigh lift can help you achieve your ideal look.

It’s important to note that you should be at or close to your ideal weight before getting a thigh lift, since significant weight fluctuations later on can affect your surgery results.

In addition, before you can undergo a thigh lift, our team sits down with you to discuss your general health and surgery goals to ensure the procedure is a good fit for you. Once you’ve been cleared for surgery, you can schedule the date of your thigh lift.

What happens during a thigh lift?

On the day of your surgery, our team starts by administering general anesthesia. Next, based on the type of thigh lift you’ve chosen, Dr. Davila makes the necessary incisions. Then, Dr. Davila can remove the excess skin and fat and close the incisions. From start to finish, the surgery takes two to six hours.

Recovering from a thigh lift takes several weeks. You’ll need to take time off work and refrain from doing anything strenuous for about six weeks. During this recovery time, you may notice some swelling and bruising, but these should subside after several days.

You will likely have some degree of scarring around the incision sites, but Dr. Davila works carefully to make sure they’re subtle.
