WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS IN BREAST REDUCTION?
There are two options in breast reduction, depending upon the size of your breasts and your overall goals:
Standard breast reduction: During this procedure, Dr. Davila removes excess tissue to resize your breast. In order to make your new breasts look as natural as possible, Dr. Davila may move your nipple and areolas up, as well. If he needs to do this, you may not be able to breastfeed in the future, which is something you should consider beforehand.
Breast reduction with liposuction: If your breasts contain large deposits of fat, Dr. Davila may turn to liposuction to reduce your breast size. There are limitations to this technique, however. If your breasts are very fibrous, liposuction may prove ineffectual.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
The answer to this depends upon the extent and the type of your breast reduction procedure. If Dr. Davila removes a fair amount of tissue and relocates your nipples, it takes time for the area to fully heal. Even if it’s just a minor adjustment, your body still needs time to heal.
In general, you should count on taking it easy for several weeks, because you may have some swelling, pain, and bruising in the area. These typically resolve themselves as your body’s natural healing resources go to work.
After the surface tissue has healed, your body still needs time to adjust to the new shape. So, while you may immediately feel the effects of the reduction, it may take several months before you fully appreciate the cosmetic results.
