What Does A Mommy Makeover Consist Of?

Becoming a mom changes many things, including your body. While the way you look may not be one of your immediate priorities following the birth of your child, there may be a point later on when you become disheartened by the effects that pregnancy and nursing have had on your body. Diet and exercise can be used to help shift excess pounds and tone up some areas of muscle, but many women find that there are some elements to their appearance that cannot be reversed using these methods alone. Fortunately, there is a procedure called a mommy makeover that can help.

A mommy makeover is one of the most popular combination plastic technique techniques, and as you might expect, it has been designed to address the specific issues faced by women who have previously been through pregnancy and breastfeeding. This is because the surgeries involved in the process target the areas of the body that are most affected by both of these events, reversing the way that they have been affected and enabling patients to enjoyed restored confidence in their appearance.

PROCEDURES INCLUDED IN A MOMMY MAKEOVER

There is a range of procedures that can be included in a mommy makeover. However, as each combination is tailored to the specific needs of the patient, exactly which you will have included in your surgery will depend on the areas of your body that you would like to address.

BREAST AUGMENTATION AND/OR LIFT

Breasts can change significantly during pregnancy and nursing, becoming larger and firmer when your milk comes in and then losing this buoyancy once you are no longer breastfeeding. Many women find that their breasts lose much of their previous volume and firmness, causing them to sit lower and flatter than before. Cosmetic breast procedures such as augmentation and lift can address these issues. Breast implants can be used to add volume and make the breasts look fuller and more voluptuous. This procedure can be combined with a breast lift, which trims away excess skin and lifts the breasts so that they sit higher on the chest. Alternatively, either surgery can be performed without the other.

TUMMY TUCK

Also known as abdominoplasty, this procedure targets the area that is typically the most affected by pregnancy – the abdomen. When the tummy grows to accommodate your developing baby, the skin and muscles beneath become stretched far beyond their usual capabilities. This can cause the abdominal muscles to separate and it can be hard for the skin to return to its pre-baby elasticity. Abdominoplasty surgery repairs any separated muscles (a condition known as diastasis recti) and removes excess skin, ensuring that what remains adheres more closely to the natural contours of the belly.

LIPOSUCTION

Other areas of your body may have been affected by stubborn, excess fat that doesn’t seem to want to shift, no matter how much you diet or exercise. The thighs, hips, buttocks, lower back, and upper arms are particularly adept at clinging onto unwanted fat cells. Fortunately, these can be permanently eliminated, and your body streamlined using liposuction. Liposuction is a minimally-invasive procedure during which the target areas are injected with saline solution to break up the fat cells. These are then sucked out using a thin tube that is inserted into the area, which is attached to a vacuum. The tube, called a cannula is worked back and forth so that the fat is removed, and the area is sculpted to appear smoother and leaner than before.

FAT TRANSFER

Fairly new to the mommy makeover combination, fat transfer is another procedure that can enable patients to enhance any area of their body that they feel needs an extra boost. It is carried out in combination with liposuction. This is because it involves the collection and purification of the removed fat so that it can then be reinserted back into the part of the body that the patient would like to enlarge and enhance – the buttocks and breasts are the most common examples. Since it is fat from the patient’s own body, it won’t be rejected, making it extremely safe and effective.
