Slim Down Before Summer With Liposuction

Summer is nearly upon us — the season of sandals, sundresses, and swimsuits. If you are not entirely enthusiastic, you may want to consider liposuction. Here’s some information that we at Houston Cosmetic Surgery Center think you should know.

LIPOSUCTION SAFETY AND WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE

Liposuction has been a popular procedure since the 1980s, and though there are some risks, it’s generally considered a safe procedure. Some people are better candidates than others. If you are a non-smoker, have firm skin, and you’re within 30% of your ideal body weight, you’re likely a good candidate for liposuction — just in time for swimsuit season.

Dr. David Davila is happy to provide a consultation and answer any questions you may have about whether or not liposuction is right for you. He makes sure you understand the potential risks and talks to you about your goals for the procedure.

WHERE LIPOSUCTION WORKS BEST

Liposuction produces better results on certain areas of the body than others. The following areas are often good targets for liposuction:

Liposuction is a method for removing fat, but it is essentially body contouring. So, if there is an area of your body that just seems resistant to exercise and diet, liposuction may be the best way to get the look you want.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction is a surgical procedure, so you should expect a clinical setting. You are given anesthesia, and though you can go home after the procedure, you need someone to drive you. During the procedure, Dr. Davila inserts a small tube called a cannula into the area where he plans to remove fat. He connects suction to the cannula, and the fat cells are removed.

You can expect some swelling and possibly bruising after the procedure, so you need a few days to recover. You may need to wear compression garments for a period of time as you heal. Within a few days, you begin to see a difference, but the full results take a couple of months to appear.

Once those fat cells are removed, they are permanently gone. But, you could still gain weight and new fat cells could form. You should maintain your new look through a healthy diet and plenty of exercise.

LIPOSUCTION VERSUS OTHER METHODS OF BODY SCULPTING

There are other, less invasive methods of removing fat, but there are a couple of reasons you might choose liposuction. Other methods, such as laser sculpting, are generally better for smaller areas, so if you have a larger area of fat, liposuction may be the better method for you.

And, if you want to get ready for summer, you’ll appreciate that the results from liposuction are quicker than with other methods. Laser treatments, for example, can take a few months for the results to become apparent.

With liposuction, you’re likely to experience some swelling, but once that goes away, you’re able to see results. And the effect of the procedure continues to improve for a few months. It’s the best of both worlds in that way.

If you’re curious about liposuction, now is the perfect time to find out if it might be right for you. Book a consultation with Dr. Davila today to learn more.

Am I A Candidate For Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia is also referred to as enlarged breast tissue. It is a condition that commonly affects men. While there are many causes for this condition, some of them occur for no documented reasons.

How Long Does Liposuction Last?

If you have undergone liposuction, you may wonder whether or not the fat that has been removed will return. Liposuction is certainly permanent, but fat can still return if you do not improve your exercise and eating habits.
