How A Breast Lift Works To Perk Up Your Chest Without Implants

Many women who have experienced changes in the appearance of their breasts consider cosmetic surgery. If it’s the positioning of your breasts rather than their size that is an issue, a simple Breast Lift can help give you back that youthful, perky look — without the need for breast implants.
At Houston Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. David Davila offers breast lifts for women looking for a boost to their self confidence.
HAVE YOU NOTICED CHANGES TO YOUR BREASTS?
There are many reasons that breasts may sag or shift. Most have to do with aging or reproduction. You might notice changes if:
-
You’ve ever been pregnant. Pregnancy can cause breasts to increase in size and weight, regardless of whether you breastfed.
-
You’ve aged. Over the years, collagen supplies decrease and gravity exerts constant drag on your breasts, which can cause them to sag and elongate.
-
You’ve gained or lost weight. Changes in weight can cause breasts and the area around the nipple (the areola) to stretch, sag, and shift position.
If your breasts hang down, if the areolae are enlarged, point downward, or get lost in the crease when your breasts are unsupported, or if one of your breasts falls lower than the other, a breast lift might be able to restore a more even, youthful look.
HOW CAN A BREAST LIFT HELP?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, can do several things:
-
Decrease sagging and lift your breasts
-
Reshape your breasts for a firmer look and feel
-
Raise the position of the nipples and areolas
-
Reduce the size of the areolae
Dr. Davila creates a beautiful new breast shape without implants by removing excess tissue and skin and raising the position of the breasts and nipples. Scarring From A Breast Lift is minimal, can be hidden under a bra or bikini top, and will become less visible with time.
HOW DOES A BREAST LIFT WORK?
There are three types of incisions that can be made for a breast lift. Very mild cases of sagging breasts can often be remedied by simply making an incision around your areola to perform the lift. In some cases, the doctor will make an incision around your areola and a second incision down toward your breast crease.
For more complicated reconstruction, both of these incisions may be joined by a horizontal incision under your breast, to allow for a better result and a higher, more compact, firmer breast. The areolae may also be adjusted to make them more proportionate before the nipples are repositioned higher on the breasts.
AFTER A BREAST LIFT
In most cases, a breast lift is an outpatient procedure, which means Dr. Davila can perform it quickly and you can go home the same day. Most patients have only minor soreness, easily treated with over-the-counter pain medications. You’ll need to wear a compression garment (provided by our center) to keep your breasts held in position while you heal.
Complications after breast lifts are rare, and can normally be avoided by following Dr. Davila’s instructions about medication and aftercare, by wearing your compression garment, and by avoiding smoking. You’ll be able to see the full results of your breast lift in 4-8 weeks, once your healing is complete and the final residual swelling has completely subsided.
